Three sources of inspiration for a dream come true: L'Auberge LAutre Jardin:
Symbolized by a Georges Moustaki song Once there was a garden called Earth, lAutre Jardin stands out of the hotel trade thanks to its unique character. First social economy-oriented hotel in Quebec, lAutre Jardin is owned by Carrefour Tiers-Monde, an international cooperation society which has worked in the Quebec City area for the last thirty years. With the help of profits made by lAutre Jardin, Carrefour Tiers-Monde can continue its public awareness campaigns, instrumental in building a world of peace, justice and fraternity between peoples of both the North and the South.
LAutre Jardin is also a concept that emerged in 1996 at Jardin dAntoine, a nice little hotel on St. Denis Street, in Montreal. Its owners, Mr Antoine Giardina and Ms Francine Gaudreault, were interested by an idea submitted by a Carrefour Tiers-Monde volunteer worker during a stay at their hotel. That idea, developing a three-star inn to guarantee consistent financing to Carrefour Tiers-Monde for its educational activities, did not fall on deaf ears. Through their expertise and judicious advice, the owners of lAuberge le Jardin dAntoine helped the growth of another garden in Quebec City.
LAutre Jardin also refers to Jardin Saint-Roch, a neighborhood near lAuberge, but also the driving force behind revitalization of this part of the city. The oasis of foliage one can find in the flowery terrace of lAuberge is somehow the natural extension of Jardin Saint-Roch : a place where it feels good to eat breakfast during the warm summer mornings.
Furthermore, the building acquired in the Fall of 1998 by Carrefour Tiers-Monde to develop lAuberge lAutre Jardin was already firmly rooted in the neighborhood.
